SHERBURN youngsters took to the boxing ring recently as the Sky Sports cameras pitched up at their school.

Sherburn High’s PE Department has been involved with the TV company in their “Living for Sports” project over the past few months.

Twelve students in Year 11 volunteered to attend the club in the school’s new fitness suite every Tuesday lunch time.

The aim of the course was to show the students the positive effect that exercise has on the body and mind when revising for exams.

Part of the project also included a visit from Dermot Gascoyne; a former heavyweight professional boxer.

The project was meant to end after 6 weeks but the students were all keen for the project to continue after their exams.

After the head of the PE Department Paul Brennan nagged endlessly to Sky Sports, the school was finally accepted into scheme.

One particular activity saw twelve students taught how to pack a punch by Dermot, before seeing who could hit the hardest.

And in a surprising end to the day, the girls came out on top despite rumours of a split decision!
