The Daisychain project, which was set up in 2001 to help victims of domestic violence, is now in a “much better position” after being given more help.

The service which was previously ran by Selby District Association of Voluntary Services (AVS) is now being ran by York and North Yorkshire Independent Domestic Abuse Services (IDAS).

The change means IDAS will take over the running of the service and according to Linda Slough, chief officer at AVS, this means the project is in much more capable hands.

She said: “Our specialism wasn’t really to offer frontline services regarding this subject.

“We believe that the service is now in a much better position and that IDAS can bring better ideas to the forefront than we can.

“It’s nice to be handing the service over to people who can improve it and take it forward and they bring a lot more so this will benefit the people of Selby massively.”

Between April and December 2012 there were 649 incidents of domestic violence reported to police in Selby.
