FESTIVE fun is on the cards next week thanks to Selby Town Council.

Plans are afoot to welcome in the Yuletide season, beginning with a Christmas craft fair at the town hall on Thursday November 29 from 6-9pm.

The venue will be full of great present ideas with something for everyone, and entrance is free.

Then on the Saturday, December 1, there will be a visit by two special guests when Pudsey Bear and the man himself Santa arrive in town.

Pudsey will be taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the special Christmas market which starts at 9am with entertainment throughout the day provided by Abbey Belles, the Rock Choir, Minster FM and other special guests - leading up to the big lights switch on at 4pm.

Santa will also say hello, and is setting up home in the Wetherells department store in town, where he will remain until Saturday December 22.

Town council markets manager, Gill Bell said: “We are responding to public demand for more, specialised, markets in Selby.

“The town Christmas markets will be the ideal start to Christmas shopping, there will be a range of goods on offer to satisfy the most discerning of Selby shoppers - lots of things that will make the unique Christmas present, so you can drop-in to the Thursday Christmas Craft Fair indoors at the town hall and then come along to the outdoor Christmas market.

“With the added attraction of all those sounds and aromas that evoke ‘Christmas’ there will be locally produced food and drink to tickle your taste buds, lots of try before you buy samples, it will be without question the best start to Christmas Selby has seen for some time.”

Council leader, Steve Shaw-Wright added: “As Charles Dickens wrote ‘There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour’, and laughter and good humour, will be found in abundance in Selby as the town council kicks off the festivities. It’s going to be a time to remember hope to see you there.”
