Selby MP in post bid 'revolt' backing
SELBY MP John Grogan is among 71 Labour backbenchers backing moves to reject the planned part-privatisation of the Royal Mail.
Gordon Brown is facing the biggest back bench revolt since he became Prime Minister after the MPs tabled the Early Day Motion, which appeared on the Commons order paper yesterday.
The Motion warns selling a minority stake in the postal group would risk fracturing "one of Britain's greatest public services".
Mr Grogan said: "In February 2007, the government agreed a 1.2 billion loan to modernise the sorting offices.
"It's surprising that two years later, only half of this money has been spent – 600 million of government money remains available to fund modernisation; there's no need for private capital."
