Selby bag snatchers are out on the prowl

CRIME: Crime scene.

NORTH Yorkshire Police have issued a warning to shoppers after two purse thefts in Selby earlier this week.

The thefts occurred just 10 minutes apart at two supermarkets in the town on Wednesday 23 January 2013.

At around 10.30am a 77-year old woman was shopping in Morrison’s on Market Cross, when her purse containing cash and bank cards was taken from her bag, which was hanging from her trolley.

It is believed that the woman had been distracted by one offender while another took the purse from her bag.

A short time later, at around 10.40am, an 86-year old local woman had her black handbag containing cash and her house keys stolen from her trolley in Tesco on Portholme Road.

Officers suspect that the two offences were committed by the same offenders and are warning shoppers to be vigilant.
