Second rail death in days in South Yorkshire town

A PERSON was killed after being hit by a train in Doncaster yesterday – the second rail death in the town in four days.
Police confirmed a person was pronounced dead at the scene near Adwick station near Doncaster on Friday, the same week another man was killed there.
British Transport Police were called out to the scene at around 12.50pm after the 11.05am East Coast London King’s Cross to Leeds service was involved in the incident.
A spokesman said: “Medics from Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the person and inform their family.”
A file into the tragedy is now being prepared for Doncaster Coroner Nicola Munday.
Services between Doncaster and Leeds were subject to lengthy delays as police sealed off the track. Adwick railway station was closed and services cancelled following the lunchtime tragedy.
The incident comes just days after a man was killed on the same stretch of track near Adwick at 5.30am on Tuesday.
The body of a man in his 30s was removed from the tracks near Hangthwaite Lane after police were alerted to the collision by a train driver.
And in a separate incident just hours later, a woman, also in her 30s, was airlifted to hospital after she was struck a ‘glancing blow’ from a train as she crossed the tracks at Thorne South station.
She was taken to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital suffering from back injuries.
In December, Haxey youngster Emma Lifsey, four, was killed when a car she was travelling in was hit by a train at Beech Hill level crossing, Misson Springs. On the same day, Doncaster rail worker Scott Dobson from Stainforth was killed after being hit by a train near Saxilby.
The death at Adwick is the third fatality there in 18 months. Richard Straw, 28, was killed after being hit by an express train in July 2011.
His three year-old daughter, who was in his arms at the time, survived the accident.
