Search for best local heroes
AS SELBY Times and Goole Courier Community Pride Awards and Superkids search to find the district’s most inspirational people draws closer, now is the last chance for nominees to put forward the names of their unsung heroes.
In association with Drax Power and sponsored by The Read School, the spectacular awards ceremony will take place at the venue on Thursday November 8 and hosted by our special guest BBC Look North’s Clare Frisby.
The awards are an annual event set up to recognise and reward inspirational people from across Selby – and this year we’re also incorporating a special section for the SuperKids of Selby.
There are seven awards up for grabs in Community Pride categories and six in SuperKids. There is also an overall award, which is being kindly sponsored by The Read School in Drax.
The seven categories for Community Pride are as follows: Sporting Hero; Unsung Hero; Champion Citizen (sponsored by Selby District Council); Teacher of the Year (sponsored by Selby College); Environment Award; Community Project; and Volunteer of the Year. In the SuperKids section, the six awards up for grabs are: Sports Award; Community Award; Bright Future Award (sponsored by The Read School); Young Citizen Award; Support the Family Award; and Special Award (sponsored by the Jug Inn at Chapel Haddlesey); Unsung hero (Wetherells).
If you know someone who fits into one or some of these categories then don’t delay, send your nomination in today! The closing date for nominations is Friday October 26 2012. To nominate, send the name, address, phone number and email address of the person you are nominating along with which Awards scheme and category you are nominating them in. Make sure you include your reasons for nominating that person.
Also include your name, address, telephone number and email address.
Send it all to: emma.angell@jpress.co.uk or Community Pride Awards, Sunny Bar, Doncaster, DN1 1NB. Alternatively, post them or bring them into the Selby Times office at 74-76 Gowthorpe, Selby, YO8 4ET.
Selby District Council is, once again, supporting the awards and this year sponsors Champion Citizen category. Council leader Coun Mark Crane, said: “These awards are a chance for us all to celebrate the very best of the district as it’s real people making a difference to our community.”
