Scarecrows come to life in fairytale
GREAT FALL: Humpty Dumpty had a great fall at the Carlton Scarecrow Festival.
FAIRYTALE characters gave a magical experience and wowed visitors to the inaugural Carlton Scarecrow Festival.
The rain failed to stop more than 80 people attending the village fest and lots of villagers ventured out to buy maps and set out on the scarecrow trail, vote for their favourite ones and help to raise funds for Carlton Playgroup.
It was close but the winner was Jack and the Beanstalk, submitted by the Charles Green family. The entry included light and smoke special effects which made it extra special and the festival itself raised more than £200.
Playgroup manager Elaine Pocklington said: “Despite the bad weather it was a great event arranged by our staff member Sally Wood. More than 80 people took part and £210 was raised for the playgroup. The standard of scarecrow was very high and there were 26 scarecrow exhibits in total. It was difficult to choose a winner because they were all so good, but in the end the title went to Jack and the Beanstalk. I hope next year’s festival will be just as good as this one.”
After the trail, refreshments were served back at the new playgroup premises on High Street in Carlton and discussions were started on the theme for next year’s festival!
