Question – where are you?
That is the question posed by Yorkshire’s ambulance bosses in a bid to ensure ambulance staff can find patients quickly in a medical emergency.
As winter draws close and there are fewer hours of daylight, residents in the region are being urged to make sure their house name or number is clearly visible from the road during the day and at night so they can be found easily by emergency services.
Launching the appeal, David Williams, deputy director of operations at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, emphasised that every second counts in a life-threatening emergency situation and that poorly displayed or poorly lit house numbers may cause a needless delay in locating a house.
He said: “It may seem like a simple request, but it can make a significant difference in us reaching patients quickly. When our staff are unable to immediately spot a house they are looking for when answering an emergency call it can be very frustrating as they want to reach the patient as quickly as possible.”
The Trust is asking people to check that their house name or number is clearly visible from the road, that there are no trees or bushes obstructing the signs.
