INQUISITIVE pupils from Hambleton Primary School took a step back in time when they immersed themselves in the lives of Anglo Saxons.
Historian from Timetalks in Bradford Dave Manning came into school to give the children a hands on experience of Anglo Saxon tools and costumes to enhance their autumn term project.
Class five teacher Jo Farmery said the Anglo Saxon themed project was the latest in a series, which has seen the children also study Romans and Vikings.
She said: “The children have had a great time learning about all aspects of Anglo Saxon history, especially warfare. This has been very much a hands on project with Dave Manning bringing into school artefacts and the children role playing. Children enjoyed dressing up in chain mail and traditional dress and were able to handle weapons and shields and see how heavy they were.”
She added: “We are very keen in school to give the children as rich an experience as possible.
“We do lots of things to make the experience more real for them. Our next project will be to work with a school in Zambia next spring. It should be very exciting.”
