Proms-ising fundraiser for charity funds!

A SELBY charity fundraiser has laid out his latest plans to raise money to help sufferers of the incurable disease myasthenia gravis,

Ron Middlemass, who is himself a MG sufferer, is organising a last night of the proms event at York’s Joseph Rowntree Theatre.

Ron told the Selby Times: “For the last four years I have been fundraising for York and Selby hospitals to help people with myasthenia gravis, as there is no known cure for this condition.

“I fundraise to buy equipment that will help staff deal with this nasty condition, I am 78 and was diagnosed with MG myself in 2006, I find fundraising helps me to cope with the illness.

“We have raised a total of just over £32,000 for the NHS Trust, which has all been spent on equipment.

“It costs £80,000.00 a year to fund a technician to do research, I have not much chance of doing that yet, but I am trying by raising awareness and funds.

“We had a last night of the proms last year and raised £1,400, and was asked many times to repeat it again this year.

“The concert was amazing last year and we’re looking forward to repeating that success.”

This years concert, which takes place on October 20, features the Yorkshire Volunteers Band and Corps of Drums

Ron added: “The entire event is sponsored by the White Rose Foresters of York, so every pound taken will go into the hospital Fund. There is a large free car park and a free programme, song sheet and flag for everyone who comes along.

“Come and join us have fun and help the York Hospital!

“I’d like to thank everyone for their past support which has enabled us to buy equipment to the value of just over £32,000, over the last three years. Book your tickets now and don’t miss out!

Tickets, which cost £7, are available from the York Theatre Royal box office on 01904 623568 or on the theatre’s website. The concert is a ticket only event
