Selby Abbey Primary School got the thumbs up when Ofsted made a recent visit.
The school, located on New Lane, got an overall rating of ‘Good’ from inspectors who visited the school at the end of January.
The report commented on the school saying: “This is a good school.
“The achievement of pupils is good and improving with pupils making particularly good progress in English and mathematics.
“Teaching is well-planned to meet the needs of all learners and makes skilled use of teaching assistants.”
The school was also praised for its religious teaching. Rev Canon John Weetman, from Selby Abbey, is the vice-chairman of the school governors.
The report added: “The school’s Christian Ethos and regular opportunities for worship and reflection provide good opportunities for the spiritual and moral development of pupils.”
Inspectors observed 18 lessons in total, including a number of small support groups.
