FINAL nominations are now in for Selby Times and Goole Courier Community Pride and Superkids Awards in the countdown to find the district’s most inspirational people.

The honours are awarded in association with Drax Power with junior categories sponsored by The Read School in Drax.

Overall there are 13 categories with each of the Community Pride Award categories having an individual sponsor. Drax will be the sponsor for the environment award and will present and sponsor the overall winner of the evening.

The spectacular awards ceremony will take place at Drax Sports and Social Club next Thursday November 8 and will be hosted by our special guest – BBC Look North’s Clare Frisby.

The awards are an annual event set up to recognise and reward inspirational people from across Selby – and this year we’re also incorporating a special section for the SuperKids of Selby area.

There are seven awards up for grabs in Community Pride categories and six in SuperKids. There is also an overall award, which is being kindly sponsored by Drax Power.

The seven categories for Community Pride are as follows: Sporting Hero nominees – Jamie Wheeler and Zak Collins; Unsung Hero nominees – Brian Turner and Tracey Harrison; Champion Citizen (sponsored by Selby District Council) nominees – Jim Herran – Selby Striders; Teacher of the Year (sponsored by Selby College) nominees – Sarah Gage and David Nicoline; Environment Award (Sponsored by Drax Power Ltd) nominees – Team Generation Goole High School and The Green Team; Community Project nominees – Lorna Hope and Selby Hands of Hope; and Volunteer of the Year nominees – Laura Collins and Hetty Walker; finally Family of the Year (sponsored by the Selby Times) nominees – Storm family and Grundy family.

In the SuperKids section, the six awards up for grabs are: Sports Award nominees Tom Knight and Paris Grenier; Community Award nominees – Callum England and Noah Banks; Bright Future Award nominees – Marcus Trinder and Georgia Ratcliffe with Hannah Derzins; Young Citizen Award nominees – Carter Sellars and Tom Knight with Sam Jackson and Simon Wraith; Special Award (sponsored by Jug Inn) nominees – Sienna Singleton and Olivia Howard and Freya Copeland. There is also an Overall Superkids winner (sponsored by The Read School, Drax).

Selby District Council is, once again, supporting the Selby Times’ Community Pride Award and this year sponsors the Champion Citizen category. Council leader Coun Mark Crane, said: “These awards are a chance for us all to celebrate the very best of the district as it’s real people making a difference to our community.”
