Pensioner hits out at authority
AN ANGRY pensioner has slammed Selby District Council, claiming they encourage fly-tipping.
Peter Clayton rang the authority to ask them if they could shift a single mattress and disassembled wardrobe because he couldn’t fit them in his car.
He was happy to pay the £20 charge for the service, but was dismayed when he was told to leave the items in his front garden for collection within two weeks.
“I don’t want to leave a mattress and a wardrobe in my front garden,” said retired Peter, of Brayton. He told the council he was always in and asked instead if someone could ring him when the items were going to be collected. He was told that wasn’t an option.
“I am not a fly-tipper, said Peter. “But you can understand why people fly-tip!”
SDC said: “We are reviewing the bulky waste collection service with a view to improving the customer experience by offering a specific day of collection for customers. When implemented we are confident the improved service will address the concerns raised by this resident.”
