A RACE track whizz kid is using pedal power to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK after his dad and two granddads developed the disease.
Joe Thompson, 15, of Station View House in Cliffe, said his dad and grandfathers provided the perfect motivation for his mammoth 50k (31-mile) trek from Selby to York on a date to be decided.
He said the ride would be a real trial as he was used to racing motorbikes around a track but not getting from A to B under his now steam.
He added: “I will be riding from Selby to York city centre. From there I will cycle to my dad’s restaurant – Thompsons Fish and Chips – on the A64 at Stamford Bridge.
“It’s approximately 50k which is 31 miles. It may not seem that much for some people out there but I am not a cycling athlete, I am a racing athlete doing a charity bike ride for a cancer charity.”
He further added: “I have been training quite a bit for the ride and I hope I can raise some more money, I have currently raised just over £500 and hope to raise a couple of hundred more. You can donate instantly on my justgiving page.. justgiving.com/joethompsonracing site.
