No vow of silence from MP
Claims made in relation to mortality rates at Goole Hospital by a hospital Trust member have been totally refuted by the area’s MP Andrew Percy.
In the front page story in last week’s Courier, Brent Huntington said MPs in the area had been silent on the issue, but Goole and Brigg MP Mr Percy said he had been anything but silent.
In an email to the Courier he said he had raised the issue on a number of occasions in newspapers and on television.
Mr Percy said: “I am absolutely disgusted at the comments of Brent Huntington in last week’s Goole Courier who has yet again mouthed off on a subject he knows little about. I am sorry that Coun Huntington, a Labour Town Councillor, is trying to use the issue of mortality rates to make a cheap political point. Myself and other local MPs, both Conservative and Labour, have done more than most to challenge the Trust on the issue of high mortality rates. We meet with the Trust regularly to challenge them on this issue and we have also been closely involved in a number of ways, not least by the fact that we take up cases on behalf of residents who have been concerned about the treatment of their families and loved ones. Not only have myself and other local MPs been closely involved in meetings with the Trust, we have also spoken publicly about the issue on a number of occasions.” He said he would continue to work hard on these issues.
