No more wondering over former Selby Woolworths store
WORK has begun to transform Selby's former Woolworths store into a new bargain chain following an exchange of contracts.
The prime Gowthorpe premises has been snapped up by the Yorkshire Trading Company, which specialises in clothing and also sells items including household goods, garden equipment, paint, tools, stationary, cards, sweets, and ornaments.
The firm has taken over a number of vacant Woolworths stores in different parts of the country, and is due to open its doors to Selby shoppers early next month.
Gary Crompton, of agents Reid Rose Gregory, said: "We have exchanged contracts with Yorkshire Trading, and the firm is currently fitting out the property with a view to opening in the next two or three weeks."
The shop has remained empty since Woolworths folded and closed its doors on January 6 this year after an 80-year association with the town, prompting the loss of 31 jobs.
The premises had attracted interest from several high street chains, as well as a number of bids, before the identity of the of the preferred bidder was revealed this week.
