IT’S jobs for our boys and girls – Selby and Ainsty MP Nigel Adams is to fulfil an election pledge by personally organising a Jobs Fair in the district.

Mr Adams has booked the Abbey Leisure Centre in September for the fair and is writing to large employers and small businesses to encourage them to sign up. Drax Power, Dovecote Park and York-based Renovo, who supply employment related support services nationwide, have already committed to the fair.

The Selby Times is also supporting the employment-boosting project.

Mr Adams said: “In the run-up to my election last year, I said that helping people get into work would be my priority and the Selby District Jobs Fair 2011 is part of ensuring my commitment is fulfilled. The Jobs Fair will be a great opportunity to match jobseekers with opportunities as well as holding workshops aimed at helping people into work.

“I am pleased that, since the election, unemployment is falling in Selby and Ainsty but we should not be complacent and I hope the Jobs Fair will help local people to ensure it continues to fall,” Mr Adams said.

Jobcentre Plus is supporting the event and will have staff on the day offering advice as well as encouraging registered jobseekers to head to the Fair.

Job Centre Plus’ North East Yorkshire senior operations manager, John Bennett, said: “We are delighted to support Nigel Adams’ Jobs Fair. I would encourage as many local employers, training organisations and programme providers as possible to attend and help to make this event a big success for the people of Selby and district.”

The Jobs Fair also has the support of Selby District Council. Its leader, Mark Crane, said, “I was delighted to learn that Nigel Adams had put together this Jobs Fair and the council are pleased to be working with him on this event.”

The Jobs Fair takes place on Wednesday September 21 2011. It will be open from 10 am to 4 pm. The event is totally free to both employers and jobseekers.

Employers who would like to be involved should visit www.nigeladams.org for further information or contact his constituency office by e-mail at nigel@selbyandainsty.com or on 01937 838088.
