FIREFIGHTERS rushed to the rescue following recent flooding after a woman in her 70s out walking her pet dog became trapped in mud near her home.

The incident happened at around 1.15pm last Thursday on fields close to the A63 at Osgodby, as the 74-year-old was out with her pet pooch.

When firefighters arrived she had sunk to just above her knees in the quagmire. The Selby fire crew managed to pull her to safety using its new rescue Landrover parked on ramps and a winch attached to the front.
