Mayor marks Selby’s links with hospice as he opens new shop

ST LEONARD’S Hospice has a new furniture shop in Selby – and The Mayor of Selby, Councillor George Carter, opens it on Valentine’s Day, Thursday February 14.

CounCarter has been invited by the hospice to cut the ribbon at the new store, at Unit 2, Ousegate Mill, to thank the people of Selby for their support for the Hospice since it opened in 1985, and especially for their generous help in donating goods to and buying from the Hospice’s first shop in Selby, at 2A Park Street.

The Park Street shop, which sells a wide range of donated goods, opened in September 2010.

The new shop will be the third St Leonard’s Hospice furniture store, following the long-established store in Acomb in York, and a second in Heworth, which opened in autumn last year. It will mainly sell good-quality donated furniture.

As well as selling furniture, the new shop has a dedicated corner for books, with a coffee machine donated by neighbouring business and long-term Hospice supporter Upton Vending.

Helen Moreton, Retail Manager at St Leonard’s Hospice, says, ‘We are delighted that the Mayor has agreed to open our new furniture store, and we look forward to lots of customers – and lots of donations of good quality furniture to sell to them! We know that the people of Selby will continue their great support for the work our shops do in raising funds to help the Hospice care for local people with life-threatening illnesses, and for their families.’

The new Selby Furniture Store will be open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm: closed Wednesday.

If you have furniture you would like to offer to the hospice for sale please telephone 01757 708578; the Shop is unable to accept furniture without a prior appointment.
