Lucky escape for Aero Club pilots
PILOTS of a plane that came down in a field near Sherburn Aero Club escaped with only minor injuries following their crash landing.
The incident happened on Friday at 2.53pm. Firecrews from Selby and Tadcaster, including the heavy rescue unit from Tadcaster, responded to a call from the Aero Club after they witnessed a Piper Arrow aircraft crash land on a small hill at the airfield perimeter.
When the crews arrived the two male pilots had climbed from the downed plane, and had been transported to paramedics on the airfield, where they were given precautionary checks, but fortunately they did not need any hospital treatment.
Aero Club personnel had also isolated the fuel supply of the plane. It is believed the plane crashed due to engine failure.
