A CRICKET club in Selby is celebrating after scooping a £50,000 cash windfall.

Church Fenton Cricket Club received the money through National Lottery funding in order to upgrade their facilities.

The club was chosen as one of 310 projects across England and the upgrade will include a new social area and changing room facilities.

The facelift will bring the building in line with both the ECB and FA regulations, as the local football team share the facilities.

The club’s vice chair Jill Wilkinson said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our premises.

“It is the cornerstone of our strategy to have an outstanding club for the 2012 Olympics legacy.

“One of the conditions of the funding is that work has to start within a few months of receiving it, so that’s something we are looking at starting as soon as possible really.

“We’re really lucky to receive this funding as we’ve been trying for a long time.”

Jill added that the club would possibly be renamed to commemorate the improvements that will take place.
