Life-threatening gap in rail line at Hambleton concerns

A SIX-inch gap that appeared in rail track at Hambleton on the East Coast Main Line was not repaired for several weeks RMT rail union has revealed.
They said it was only on Saturday (February 2) that work began replacing track to plug the potentially life-threatening gap.
The gap, which had started as a crack, had been discovered on the 125 mph line on January 16 using ultrasonic equipment.
The rail line was shut for five hours on Friday due to the problem and nine trains were cancelled.
