THE search is on for the region’s best young businesses as the Selby Times launches this year’s Local Business Accelerators campaign.

The scheme, backed by the Prime Minister, offers firms aged between one and five years the chance to win a free advertising campaign in the Selby Times as well as mentoring support from regional business leaders.

The campaign, organised by the Newspaper Society, is being run in more than 500 newspapers across the UK and the value of the advertising prize is calculated to be £15m in total.

Last year’s winner of the LBA award was LRB Trophies, of 2 Old Market Lane, which received a series of business mentoring sessions with the area’s MP Nigel Adams.

The company sells and engraves trophies for the UK and overseas markets, and is rapidly growing as Internet interest and word of mouth spread a positive message on the flourishing firm.

It is a real family affair and success story, as company co-owner, Steve Butler, 33, runs the firm with his brother Andrew, 29, and aunt Janet Corbett. The firm has gone from strength to strength and continues to flourish following the award.

Steve, first to enter again this year, was presented with Selby Times sponsored Local Business Accelerator by Mr Adams and Selby Times Content Editor Chris Page and confirmed he continues to find the business mentoring sessions a useful tool.

Selby Chamber secretary Steve Dunwell (above with Steve) said: “This is a great competition that helps start up and fledgling businesses. It’s free to enter and there are great benefits in terms of mentoring sessions from experienced business people.

“It certainly helped LRB Trophies and can give a huge boost to any young business. There’s no cost involved so enter today.”

LRB co-owner Steve praised the advice given by Nigel Adams when he visited his company and added: “I have already placed my entry for this year’s LBA. Winning last year has helped me tremendously with Nigel Adams giving me sound advice and the business is now booming. I urge as many businesses as possible to enter.”

To enter visit www.accelerateme.co.uk, the deadline is November 16.
