A GROUP launched ten years ago to keep older people informed about the changing face of local government in their district is still going strong.
The Over 50s Forum chaired by Don Davies meets each month at Laurie Backhouse Court in Selby and last Wednesday membership development manager of York Teaching Hospital Foundation Trust, Penny Gough, was guest speaker.
Don said she was the latest in a long line of speakers that has included Selby District Council leader Mark Crane, Selby Advocacy Service, Selby Talking Newspapers and Selby District Vision.
He added: “It is important older people are represented and kept in touch with what’s going on in the district. This group meets on the first Wednesday of every month.
“We have about 50 active members, but we also have a North Yorkshire Forum that meets in Thirsk periodically to work alongside North Yorkshire County Council officers and we have about 6,000 members across the region.
“ We feel it’s important to let older people know what is going on in the region that affects them at county and district council levels.
“This group originaly started as the Better Government For Older People group, but this folded four years ago and became the Over-50s Forum.”
