UNEMPLOYMENT in Selby dropped by 57 last month.

The number of unemployed claimants in the Selby and Ainsty constituency in September 2012 was 1,525. This represents a rate of 3.1 per cent of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 479th highest of the 650 UK constituencies, where the number one slot goes to the area with the highest rate of unemployment.

Last months’ number of claimants is 166 lower than in September 2011, 182 lower than May 2010 and 57 lower than in August 2012. The data are not seasonally adjusted.

MP Nigel Adams said: “I welcome yet another fall in local unemployment which is very good news for the district. I’m also hopeful that my recent Jobs fair will have a further positive impact on the jobless figures in the months ahead “
