Humberside Fire and Rescue Service consult Goole residents on their precept

HUMBERSIDE Fire & Rescue Service (HFRS) is asking residents for their opinion on the level of the fire service’s council tax precept for 2013-14.

Kevin Wilson, Director of Finance, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said: “The level of the precept for 2013/14 is currently under discussion. The aim of the consultation is to gain an understanding as to the public’s preferred level of the precept.

Kevin continued, “An increase of 1 per cent on a Band D property would mean an annual fire service precept cost of £78.70, an increase of 78 pence since last year (2012-13).This 78 pence increase equates to an additional 7 pence per month for a Band D resident, and would deliver an additional £184,000 in revenue for the Service. This additional funding is the equivalent to the annual running costs of an average retained fire station with one fire engine.

We are acutely aware that the financial situation is tough for all public sector organisations and we are currently working on plans to enable us to continue delivering a high level of service in the face of budget cuts.”

The final precept recommendation will be considered by Humberside Fire Authority in February.

HFRS staff are consulting with members of the public in the community across the service area to gain their views on the three precept options being considered: 1%, 2% or no increase.

Alternatively, residents who have access to the internet can complete a questionnaire online by visiting the Consultation Area of the Humberside Fire and Rescue website at www.humbersidefire.gov.uk The deadline for the online consultation is midnight on Sunday 31 January 2013.

Residents are also able to have their say by completing a questionnaire at their local fire service Community Protection Unit (CPU) or service Headquarters (see contact details below). The deadline for returning questionnaires to CPUs or service Headquarters is Monday 21 January 2013.
