Pupils at Kirk Fenton School certainly put their hearts into a special day aimed at promoting healthy eating.
Youngsters at the primary school had a day where the menus included fresh food, fruit and vegetables whilst exercise was also in high supply throughout.
Held on Valentine’s Day, everyone was asked to dress up in red in what was a unique take on what is traditionally regarded as the most romantic day of the year.
Staff also organised for a huge red heart to be filled by the students with hundreds of silver coins, all donated by parents.
Donna Makepeace, early years leader at the Church Fenton school, said: “The school council decided they wanted to do something for Valentine’s Day but some of the pupils didn’t want it to be romantic-based so we went with something that still focuses on the heart aspect.
“In the end we decided to go down the route of basing a day on promoting healthy eating and an active lifestyle.
“This led us to making the ‘Healthy Heart Day’ with lots of activities held and of course a selection of healthy meals and snacks. The children really enjoyed the day.”
