Gun arrest
ARMED police were on the streets of Sherburn on Sunday after a man was seen in the street carrying a replica firearm.
The village’s Park Avenue was closed for several hours whilst police dealt with the incident. A spokeswoman for North Yorkhire Police said: “Police were called to the Park Avenue area of Sherburn-in-Elmet at 1.50pm on Sunday after a man was seen in the street with what was believed to be a handgun.
“Armed police attended the scene of the incident and arrested a 21-year-old local man and seized two replica hand guns. “The man has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
“Replica guns, pellet guns and air rifles cause great alarm and distress to members of the public. North Yorkshire Police take all reports of firearms seriously.”
