Fitness in the park
FITNESS fans in Selby can get fresh air with their workout now a number of items of outdoor gym equipment have been installed in Selby Park.
The equipment, similar to those found in a conventional gym, is sited around the park’s crazy golf facility. It includes a two person air strider, a combined fitness bike and stepper and a two person leg strengthener as well as a sit up board, combined fitness system, and a waist and chest system.
The equipment was chosen by Jared Jones, a fitness manager at Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, which provides leisure facilities for Selby District Council.
Councillor Gillian Ivey, deputy leader of Selby District Council, said: “The creation of the outdoor gym adds an exciting new dimension to the Park. We hope that by making it fun and easy to access, we can encourage people of all ages to undertake some healthy exercise.
“The council’s partners Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust will also be able to make use of this facility by providing sessions to help people become familiar with the equipment, ensuring it will be well used.”
The work was completed by Groundwork North Yorkshire, SDC and WLCT, with funding by Drax Power.
