Festival of crafty arts

THE full programme for this year’s Cawood Craft Festival has been announced.

The event is definitely going ahead, despite reports in other media that it may have to be cancelled.

The attractions on offer over the August Bank Holiday weekend include the traditional procession through the village, classic cars, a static steam display, art exhibitions, a scarecrow trail, an appearance by the Frei Compagnie re-enactment group – Towton Battlefield Society’s affiliated Wars of the Roses re-enactors – including archery, music and cooking, a display of gipsy and Arabic dancing, a tapestry and patchwork exhibition and a display of vintage tractors and traction engines and steam rollers and other historic vehicles.

There will also be musical performances at various venues throughout the village.

Chairman David Jones said: “From the minute everything starts on August 25, we have a packed itinerary with something for everybody, including the regular shuttle bus around the village hot spots and to and from Cawood Park.

“If you have never been before to Cawood Craft Festival, you are in for a treat. Bring the whole family along. It’s our record-breaking 30th year.”

And events director Richard Teal added: “This year we welcome back many of our favourite acts as well as the prospect of lots of new acts such as the ladies barbershop group Mainstreet Sound. They will be performing at our opening ceremony on August 25 at midday and you won’t want to miss them.”
