A TEENAGE dancer from West Cowick has tapped her way to the top by winning a coveted place on a prestigious regional dancing scheme.

Fifteen-year-old Annie-Rose Grantham beat of competition from 600 other hopefuls to successfully audition at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds to gain one of 40 places on the Yorkshire Young Dancers Scheme.

The Butterfly Dance Studios pupil will now attend the scheme three evenings a week for the next year.

The Yorkshire Young Dancers, Centre for Advanced Training enables young people with exceptional talent across the region to realise their creative and expressive potential as dancers and choreographers.

Teacher and joint Butterfly Dance Studios owner, Jennifer Rudge said: “It will provide Annie-Rose with a high quality dance education and training alongside formal education.

“It will also enable her to make informed choices about her future involvement in dance and equip her with the necessary skills for professional dance training and/or higher education.

“We are extremely proud of Anni-Rose and wish her all the best.”

Annie-Rose (pictured) has been a pupil at Butterfly Dance Studios in Carlisle Street, Goole since she was five years old and takes classes in ballet, tap, jazz, Latin American, Street, disco, gym dance, musical theatre, and rock n roll, passing exams in all subjects with outstanding grades.

She has also performed in the school’s many annual shows, summer schools, at London theatres and international events.

The talented dancer says her aim is to become a dance teacher/choreographer and to give inspiration to people who dance with physical disabilities.

Annie-Rose is following in the footsteps of another Butterfly dancer, Kelle Ruhmann, who two years ago did the same course at the Northern School, and who is now training full time at the Phil Winston Theatreworks in Blackpool to become a professional dancer.
