Children and parents enjoy the Bingo Night organised by the Friends of Cliffe School.

CLIFFE VC Primary School’s hall was ringing with the cries of “line and house” on Saturday as pupils, families and staff went bingo crazy.

The event, organised by Gillian Kirby, Adrian Huetson, Andrea Jefferson and Victoria Chatham (members of the Friends of Cliffe School Charity), was branded a massive success by many of those who attended the event.

Headteacher Mrs Hay told the Selby Times: “It was great to see so many families enjoying the afternoon’s event, some of the older pupils even got involved in the bingo calling - and did a very good job at it. It was lovely to see the extended community of the village Cliffe getting involved with a School based event like this.”

Adrian Huetson, Friends of Cliffe School treasurer, took on a slightly more vocal role than usual and was the main bingo caller for the afternoon. He managed to sneak in some of the old favourite calls of “unlucky for some - number 13” and “key to the door - number 21”.

Friends vice chairman Gillian Kirby was the main organiser of the event and she successfully organised a number of different bingo games to run through the afternoon, a special Valentine’s game for the children where a huge heart shaped cookie was the main prize took place half way through the afternoon and a finals adults only game took place at the end of the night with a bottle of champagne and large box of chocolates as the main prize.

She said: “The smaller games took place all through the afternoon where the children and adults played for lines, corners and finally a full house, with two special Valentines based games - one for adults and one for children.”

Over 50 adults and children attended. Secretary Victoria Chatham added: “We were a bit worried at the beginning of last week when we launched the event as we didn’t know if anyone was going to come, but Gill did a fantastic job of selling the tickets pre-event and a flurry of people also turned up on the day - it has turned out to be a really fun afternoon and we will definitely be doing it again.”

Friends of Cliffe School are now organising their main event, a June fun day, anyone who wishes to help out should email Victoria at friendsofcliffeschool@ymail.com
