Drink-driver twice the limit
A DRINK-DRIVING woman was banned for 18 months after being found by Police at more than twice the legal limit.
Fiona Lockwood, 46, of Ossett, Wakefield, was attended to by police officers after her car had broken down on the A162 at Byram on November 7 last year.
They assisted in getting the vehicle to the side of the road, but then, said Katie Varlow, prosecuting before Selby magistrates on January 3, they smelt intoxicants on the woman’s breath.
Mrs Lockwood then provided a sample of blood with a reading of 182mg - the legal limit for driving being 80mg.
Philip Brown, mitigating, said that his client had experienced a hard year with the break-up of her 14-year-old marriage and problems over her access to her children.
Although Lockwood had admitted drinking half-a-bottle of wine at a luncheon event, Mr Brown said that the real problem had been the alcohol she had consumed the previous night, having turned to drink in an attempt to ease her problems.
Unemployed Lockwood, who admitted driving whilst over the limit, told the court that she had sold her car in order to buy her children’s Christmas presents.
She was fined £110 and ordered to pay both £85 costs aswell as a victim surcharge of £20.
Lockwood also agreed to take part in a drink/drive rehabilitation course to reduce the driving ban by four months.
