Charity leading lights
LIGHTS FUNDRAISER: George Barnard shows off his impressive lights display at his Church Fenton home.
YOU DON’T have to go to the North Pole to see polar bears this Christmas!
Just drive through Church Fenton and you won’t be able to miss some of the amazing illuminations on display at a very special home.
For the past 16 years, Linda and George Barnard of Northfield Terrace have decorated their house with an array of Christmas lights and asked the community to make donations to a chosen charity when they stop to admire them.
This year, they have chosen to support Macmillan Cancer Support because the lives of many people in the village have been affected by cancer in the last year.
Linda says that they have had lots of interested viewers over the years .
“We usually get a good reception from people that walk past, and just the other day there were eight of the Sherburn Lions discussing the lights outside.”
The couple invited the local representative from Macmillan, Clara White, along to do the honours of turning on the lights last month.
After flicking the switch, Clara said: “It was a pleasure to turn on these amazing lights. We are so delighted that they have chosen to support Macmillan this year.”
