OLDER people and their importance in society was highlighted when the Selby Over 50s Forum held an event to celebrate the tenth international Older Person’s Day at Selby Town Hall.
Forum secretary Olive Tanner said the day was a celebration “of older people and for older people”. She added: “It’s important to remember the older citizen. At the town hall we had representatives of University of the Third Age (U3A), road safety group 95 Alive, who brought along a driver simulation unit, Link/Health Watch and Yorkshire Air Ambulance, among others.
“This day was set up by the United Nations ten years ago to highlight the role of older people, but this was the first time Selby has celebrated it. It was very successful and we hope to repeat this next year.”
During the day there were singers and musicians from Selby High School, a screening of the film The Plank written by Eric Sykes, stalls and entertainment.
