Selby Globe has been awarded 2,000 from the Why Should They grant, which will be put towards the rental of the town hall venue that supports the cinema projects held there.

Selby Globe was awarded £2,000 to enable cinema screenings to continue.

The money was made available from the ‘Why Should They’ scheme and was presented by Detective Sergeant David Edwards and Detective Inspector Ian Wills.

The cash will be used towards the rental of the town hall venue which supports the cinema projects held there.

Det Insp Wills spoke to the audience before the screening explaining how seized goods and assets from criminals is auctioned to raise funds for community projects to give back to the community.

Eva Lambert, project manager said: “We are very proud to accept the funding from ‘Why Should They’ funds. The money will enable us to add more films to our schedule offering hundreds of more people the chance to see film in Selby. With the help and kind support of Steve Shaw-Wright at Selby AVS we were successful in securing funding.

Mr Shaw-Wright. Sustainability Officer at Selby AVS added: “It’s good to see that a Selby based group has received this finding from the Why Should They grant fund. It’s great fun working with Eva at the Globe; it has been a real pleasure to see both Eva and her project grow form a germ of an idea to a now well established community group. Selby Globe is one of the easier groups to work with; Eva takes our advice, attends the training on offer and then puts that training and advice in to practice resulting in a steady stream of income from grants and from the box office.”
