KINDHEARTED East Riding of Yorkshire councillors representing Snaith gave local Cubs and Scouts a financial boost when they presented a cheque towards their building fund.

In August last year cub leaders Charles Holmes and Allan Moore walked the 192 miles of the coast to coast walk over two weeks to help raise money to build a new activity centre at Tabler Wood Scout Camp, off Finnleys Lane, West Cowick.

Councillors Caroline Fox and John Barrett presented a cheque for £100 towards the fund and promised to do all they could to help the Cubs and Scouts with their building project.

Coun Barrett said Tabler Wood Scout Camp site was used for all sorts of scouting activities and jamborees. He said it was an important venue for the area’s young people and added that money raised so far would be used to complete a new toilet block and to demolish the old activities centre.

He also said Scout and Cub leaders were now trying to raise money so they could begin work on the new centre as soon as possible.

He added: “When I was told about what the cub leaders were doing and the reasons why, I was only too pleased to help. I have given the Tabler Wood committee £100 from my former mayor’s charity as I do believe this is a worthy cause for our area. There is a lot required for a new activities centre, but every little helps.”

Coun Fox said: “This is a wonderful area for our young children. These days it can be hard to raise money but I am sure that people nearby will help out so that the camp can get a new activities centre. I am pleased that John is able to assist in a small way.”
