Canal life in black and white is on display at the Yorkshire Waterways Museum in Goole from Monday showing evocative prints of inland waterway’s folk
EVOCATIVE photographs of inland waterways by Robert Longden from the 1940s and 50s will be on display at The Yorkshire Waterways Museum in Goole from Monday.
The exhibition, which was previously at the Coventry’s Herbert Gallery, is the first time that Robert Longden’s photographs have been on display and the stunning black and white images reveal the remarkable photographic achievements of the Coventry factory worker.
During the late 1940s and early 1950s Robert Longden documented an intimate history of a working life which has now disappeared, providing a unique insight into the realities of life afloat in the post-war period. The photographs record the narrowboat people he encountered on the waterways, catching the moment of transformation which saw canals change from being industrial thoroughfares to locations for leisure.
An Inland Voyage: Life on the Coventry and Oxford canals in black and white evocative images will be on display at The Yorkshire Waterways Museum from March 18 until May 31.
