Broadband boost for industrial estate?
SUPERFAST broadband could be coming to Sherburn Industrial Estate.
Negotiations are currently ongoing with company ABN Mills, who have a base on the estate, with regard to its hosting the repeater aerial which would be necessary for the estate to get its speeded-up internet connection.
ABN spokesman Geoff Marsden said: “Discussions are ongoing with our property department over the feasibility of installing a repeater aerial for broadband on our site at Sherburn.
“No decision has been taken as yet but the discussions are carrying on.”
Sherburn councillor Mike Jordan said that if the new facilities do arrive they would be a great boon for the estates businesses.
“The companies on the estate are crying out for speedier internet,” he told the Selby Times. “If ABN is able to offer to host the aerial everyone will owe it a debt of gratitude.
“Broadband access on the estate at the moment is poor. Some companies have installed their own fibre optic cables, but that costs around £15,000, so it’s not an option for everyone.
“Access is so poor that there’s one company who, when they have to download plans or drawings, just put the kettle on. It takes so long that they have time to go and have a cuppa whilst the information is downloading!”
