A nursery owner is set to take part in a once in a lifetime opportunity, by running part of the Great Wall of China for charity.
Sam Mitchell, who runs Turnbridge Nursery in Cowick, has signed up to run a section of one of the wonders of the world as she looks to raise money for ‘Stroke Association’.
Sam chose the unique fundraiser after her father suffered two strokes in recent years. She has also seen a close family friend affected by strokes so the charity holds a special place in her heart.
She said: “My lovely dad has had two strokes in the last couple of years and I have seen how it affects the person and their families.
“As I looked further into the charity and read more about the condition, people think strokes are usually associated with older people but the true facts are five out of every 100,000 children in the UK also suffer every year.
“As I work with children and run Turnbridge day nursery I can hopefully make a difference to a wide age range of people that this has affected.”
Sam is set to take part in the run in October 2014 but knows there is a tough training regime to stick to over the course of the next 20 months.
She has also set up a JustGiving site that she hopes will attract further boosts for her appeal, which she has set as a target of £3,555.
She added: “Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity.”
You can visit Sam’s page at www.justgiving.com/Sam-Mitchell7 where donations can be made.
