DONNING their best bobble hats were the congregation at a Selby district church - all in the name of charity.
St Wilfrid’s Church in Brayton took part in Age UK’s Bobble Day, which raises money to prevent older people dying of cold.
Vicar Rev Pete Watson encouraged all his congregation to wear their hats to church for the event, and wasn’t disappointed.
He told the Selby Times: “It was great, really super. We started with a bacon butty breakfast before the main service and lots of people came - round about 40, with lots of children.
“People gave donations to Age UK and we raised about £157.”

He added: “It was a great opportunity to raise awareness of a serious issue. We’re a western developed country and we’ve got hundreds, if not thousands, of elderly at risk of dying over the winter, which is pretty shocking.”
This isn’t the first time Pete has worn something unusual to church – last November the vicar led a service in pyjamas and dog collar raise money for Children in Need, as part of Blue Peter’s Go Pajamas! Appeal.
