BIG band golden era music will raise the roof at St Wilfrid’s Church in Brayton later this month when a grand fund-raising concert is held.

On September 29, Friends of St Wilfrid’s Church will welcome the Yorkshire Swing Band to play and they will recall music from Glenn Miller and other big band heroes in the concert to raise money for restoration of the church.

Friends member Ian Chilvers (above with church warden Carol Sowden and the Rev Pete Watson) said on the night of the concert doors would be open from 7pm for a 7.30pm start, and pews would be cleared for those wanting to dance.

He added: “This should be a great concert. Pews will be moved for dancing. The concert will also be attended by Selby District Council chairman Jack Crawford and Selby Town Council mayor George Carter. Unfortunately the planned visit of our patron, Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu has been cancelled due to other commitments.” For tickets call Ian on 01757 705308, or call into Abbey Travel in New Lane or Selby Abbey.
