Bagpipes star hits high note
Kyle Shead.
LOVE them or loathe them, a young bagpipe player is hoping to become a virtuoso on his chosen instrument as he huffs and puffs his way to the top.
Kyle Shead, 13, a Barlby High School student, is hoping to hit the high notes after taking up the Scottish instrument seven years ago and hitting the top in a competition in Glasgow two weeks ago.
Kyle, of The Cloisters in Hemingbrough, has dedicated himself to perfecting the instrument ever since he first picked up the pipes. He currently attends a class with Pipe Major Cameron Edgar in Burton Salmon – a top player and respected musician.
Kyle’s father Sebastian said: “Throughout the seven years Kyle has been playing he has really dedicated himself to the instrument. My son competed at the prestigious Juvenile Scottish Pipers’ Association competition on September 15, at the College of Piping in Glasgow. He was up against stiff competition, but he came first for the march and second in the Strathspey and reel and he also won at the solo piping competition at Chatsworth House in the juvenile and adult amateur section. I feel he deserves recognition as he works really hard.”
