A PLEA for foodstuffs for vulnerable hedghogs whose hibernation cycle has been disrupted by a wet winter has been sounded by the Selby Wildlife and Rehabilitation Centre in Barlby.
Annette Pyrah at the York Road-based centre said she was after meal worms and the loaf variety of dog food – available from supermarkets or Jollyes Pet Superstore in Bawtry Road in Selby – for the 15 hedghogs she has temporarily taken in.
She said each one costs £5 per week to feed and if they fell ill it cost about £100 in vet fees to treat them.
She added: “Food can be bought for the hedghogs also by going to the wish list on Amazon and typing in Selby Wildlife.
“I brought these hedghogs in for the winter because of the snow and due to the fact many have been washed out by the floods. They haven’t gone back into hibernation and need help.”
