CAWOOD’S 30th anniversary craft festival at the weekend was a “fantastic event” according to organisers, with hundreds of people attending.
The event was opened by the BBC’s One Show gardening expert Christine Walkden, and visitors to the popular annual fun day held over the Bank Holiday weekend were entertained by the Main Street Sound barbershop singers, Alfred Bruder’s fairground organ, Leeds Society of Model and Experimental Engineers with their model steam engine rides and much more.
In addition there were belly dancers, craft and charity stalls, vintage cars and motorcycles and live music from Sherburn singer Caroline Hardie, group Wysiwyg and others.
Co-organiser David Jones said: “What a marvellous event. Numbers were up on previous years, the weather stayed fine and everyone enjoyed themselves. We had various charities raising funds over the weekend including Martin House Hospice. Entertainment also included the York Railway Estate Golden Rail Band and an acoustic set from Double Stop. There was something for everyone including the Frei Compagnie, Towton Battlefield Association doing a battlefield re-enactment.”
He added: “Most of the money raised will go towards the running costs and the upkeep of All Saints Church in Cawood. A special thank you must go to all the volunteers, without whose help this festival wouldn’t happen.”
