SHIVER me timbers!
The Jolly Roger was flying over Selby Community Primary School as children from the Picasso, Dali and Klee classes enjoyed a pirate day to round off a terms worth of studies of life on the ocean wave.
Picasso class teacher Mel Jefferson told the Selby Times: “All the children dressed up as pirates and we had a visiting dance teacher who took all three classes for a lesson each and helped them develop their own pirate dance.
“Our theme for the term has been pirates and ships and this was a really good way to end it.”
In the afternoon, the classes got together and performed their dances for each other and then tucked into pirate buns and grog!
“Even the teachers joined in the performances,” Mel said. “It was really good fun – of course the grog was really orange and blackcurrent juice!
“There is a serious side though – the project incorporated history, geography and science and we also did a lot of work on literacy as part of it.
“Mind you, I think I’ve got a few budding pirates in the class!”
