RAIL passengers can hark back to the golden age of the train aboard a series of luxury services departing Sheffield.

The Northern Belle, sister train to the famous Venice Simplon-Orient Express, has announced its 2013 schedule, which includes several services departing from the city.

A Northern Belle spokeswoman said: “A journey back in time to relive the golden age of travel is just the ticket.

“Delicious fare is served aboard the train by liveried stewards as the train passes through the countryside.

“Whether it is with friends or family, a trip aboard is an experience of a lifetime.”

On Saturday, May 18, passengers can enjoy a trip to North Wales, featuring brunch on the outward journey and a champagne dinner on the way back.

Scheduled to depart Sheffield at 7.30am, the service heads to North Wales, with passengers offered a choice of excursions at journey’s end, including a trip to the top of Snowdon, free time in the walled town of Conwy, and a trip to Bodnant Garden.

On Friday, July 26, the Edinburgh Explorer will leave Sheffield for the Scottish capital, with passenger options including a trip to Edinburgh Zoo and a tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Passengers can also enjoy Sunday lunch on the trains, with round-trip services on June 9 and October 6.

The spokeswoman said: “What better way to tempt the family away from their computers and TVs than a promise of an exciting rail trip?

“Put the shopping lists aside and enjoy some quality time with the family during the new Sunday lunch aboard the Northern Belle.

“Accompanied by musicians playing some old favourites through the carriages, it is a delightful way to spend a Sunday.”
