Tesco’s talent

Eclipse, from Goole, have reached the national final of Tesco Distributions Got Talent in aid of Cancer Research UK.

A GOOLE four-piece band will be putting their talents to the test at the national final of Tesco Distribution’s Got Talent in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Eclipse is representing Tesco Goole Distribution Centre and will join 19 other acts from across the country that will battle it out for a £1,000 prize at the gala fundraising event on Saturday, February 2, at Daventry Court Hotel.

The group has already beaten off competition from other aspiring stars to reach this stage with their incredible performance.

Staff, family and friends are able to play a role in deciding who is crowned the winner using a text to vote system in the run up, and on the night, which includes a £1 donation to Cancer Research UK.

Mark Cawthorn, vocalist from the band, said: “We first formed twenty years ago but have recently got back together.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in an exciting fundraising event, have fun and help support Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists beat cancer at the same time.”

Now in its second year the competition, which is open to Tesco Distribution staff and their family and friends, aims to raise an incredible £60,000.

This will contribute towards the £10 million record target that Tesco staff across the country hope to hit for Cancer Research UK, Tesco Charity of the Year.

Their fundraising will help support research into improving the early diagnosis and detection of cancer, helping to ensure more people receive treatment at a time when it is more likely to be successful.

More than 300,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK every year.

The money raised by Tesco stores, distribution centres and offices will be spent on supporting 32 early diagnosis and detection research projects in local communities across the UK.

Tesco and Cancer Research UK also aim to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of the disease and reduce people’s anxiety about cancer.
