Soap star is a class act
Danny Pearson (star of Emmerdale and Tracey Beaker TV programmes) who returned to his former school Tadcaster Grammar.
A YOUNG actor making great strides in television is hoping his new found fame can help other young hopefuls enter the profession.
Emmerdale and Tracy Beaker star Danny Pearson, 16, from Church Fenton, made a flying visit to his former school – Tadcaster Grammar and Business Enterprise College – last Thursday, to catch up with former teachers and to ask about getting work experience.
Danny was there to meet drama teacher Elizabeth Morris, someone he had not seen since he left in July and who he said had provided him with great inspiration in his chosen career, and also publicity officer at the school Wendy Binns.
He said: “It was nice to go back to Tadcaster Grammar and see some of my former teachers and staff. I am hoping to get work experience at the college and use this to do one-to-one sessions in future. Hopefully I can help others who want to pursue a career in acting.”
The fledgling actor is best known for his character of Luke Salter in Emmerdale. He has recorded seven episodes as the boyfriend of Belle Dingle - who is played by Selby’s own Eden Taylor-Draper – a previously good girl who Danny says Luke leads astray.
After appearing in the popular children’s series Tracy Beaker he has also found fame playing in its series spin-off Dumping Ground shown on CBBC every Friday at 4.30pm. He said the series was about youngsters everyday problems and helped them to cope with their stresses and worries.
He added: “I never went to drama college, but I went for an audition for Tracy Beaker just after leaving school and I struck lucky. I have travelled all over the country, including to London, Liverpool and Leeds, doing auditions for other television work and I’m hopeful of getting other parts in the future. But gaining work experience is important and I hope to be shadowing Elizabeth Morris at Tadcaster Grammar sometime soon.”
Wendy Binns said everyone at the school was proud of Danny’s achievements and always kept a close eye on his, and other past students’ progress.
She added: “We are proud of the fact Danny was a former student. We always keep a close eye on formers students’ progress and have a scrapbook of their achievements. I hope soon to catch him on TV.”
